Not that much help

I mentioned to Mom this workshop we are having for work, and she immediately started thinking of cousins who could be my traveling companion.

It is in West Virginia.

I am not planning on taking anyone. I don't anticipate it will be easy. It might even be stupid not to have help but it would feel worse to bring someone.

I totally understand where you're coming from, but you also want to make sure that you are safe and nobody that you work with would want anything to go wrong or something to happen. At a minimum, please have someone that you work with that is staying at the same location know that you might need to call them on their cell phone in an emergency only. You know your mother won't sleep if you don't do that! I know how much it stinks to have to have help. I always have to bring someone with me to work functions that are away from the office and it is not fun.

I read your post and, at first, didn't comment but I really think you should let someone come. Life imposes limits of varying degree on us all and it's important to make sure we are safe physically.

Your mother will worry a lot if you are alone.

I apologize for offering my unrequested two cents.
