Traumatized toes

At my physical, I asked the doctor to look at toenail that had a split in it.

You're going to lose that nail, she said, indicating that the toe and the one next to it had been traumatized.

For the life of me, I can't remember what I did.

    Your b-i-l was complaining of very sore ribs, speculating that he'd cracked one and for the life of him couldn't figure out how he'd done it. His daughter said, Uh, maybe it was when you FELL DOWN THE STAIRS? Oh, right! he said.
